Prince August Toy Soldier Factory is situated
on the N22 road between exciting town of Killarney and the second
city in Ireland, Cork city, but there is a lot to see between
these two centres of tourist entertainment, as well as a visit
to our toy soldier factory. Here is a small sample of places to
visit that might interest you.
Pets from fur to feather, indoors and
outdoors, ready to be Cuddled, fed and admired - deer, pigs, piglets,
calves, sheep and lambs, goats and kids, "Honey". "Silver"
and "Saoirse" - our Lovely ponies who love to take children
for a ride. "Roisin", "Dawn" - the little
brown donkeys with their foals. Pot bellied pigs, rabbits, guinea
pigs, cute cuddly puppies, ducks, ducklings, geese and goslings
in the pond. "Freddy" the scarecrow and mother hen brooding
over her fluffy chicks, while "Prince" the peacock struts
her stuff around.
Gobnait was a 6th century Irish Saint. Many
traditions concerning her life have been documented among them
is the story of her choosing Ballyvourney. It is said that she
was told by an angel that the place of her resurrection would
not be in the west,( meaning the west coast of Ireland )¨,
and that she should travel until she found nine white deer grazing.
She travelled southwards through Cork and Kerry and eventually
found the nine white deer in Ballyvourney on the Cork-Kerry border.
There she established a religious centre and house of healing,
and cures have been attributed to her during her life and since
then.
Bealick
Mill Heritage Centre:
Bealick
Mill is a 200+ year old four-storied structure, built by the Harding
Family in 1797and used as a corn mill but later was also used
to generate electricity. Bealick Mill is situated about half a
mile outside of Macroom town, to the North East. The Mill overlooks
Leach Mahon standing stones which commemorate the Battle of Bealach
Leachta. This bloody conflict, won by Brian Boru’s forces
in 978AD.

Monday - Saturday: 10am - 5pm.
Sunday: 2pm - 6pm.
The
diversity of tree species, the great vistas of surrounding mountains
and the placid waters of the Lee reservoir combine to form an
area of great natural beauty.
Attractions include a wildlife enclosure supporting
a great diversity of animals and birds.
There is a display center, trails, walks and
vantage points giving views of the surrounding landscape. Location
is 11 km west of Cork City on the N22 (L39) to Macroom.
